A Historic Courthouse Turned Museum — Is the Pioneers Museum Haunted?
What began as a courthouse in 1903 has transformed into the Colorado Springs Pioneers Museum, preserving the region’s rich history within its grand halls. Once the site of trials, legal battles, and even a murder, this former courthouse boasts an iconic clocktower that has stood watch over the city for more than a century. While its exhibits offer a glimpse into the past, some believe the building’s former occupants never truly left.
The most famous ghost said to linger here is Eddie Beals, a custodian who was tragically shot by an employee in 1959. Soon after his death, reports of eerie encounters began, with security guards avoiding the areas Eddie frequented in life. The building’s birdcage elevator, known to move on its own and mysteriously open its doors, is said to be one of his favorite haunts. Staff often blame unexplained movements, shadowy figures, and flickering lights on Eddie’s mischievous spirit—but could there be more than one ghost lingering in these halls?
With cold spots, strange sensations, and decades of paranormal reports, the Pioneers Museum might hold more secrets than its exhibits reveal. Are these occurrences simply the quirks of an aging building, or is something—or someone—still making its presence known?
